A Devotion By Pastor Paul Rieger - Senior Pastor

His Grace Is Sufficient

Weakness

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will  boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the  power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships,  persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.—II Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV)

Power In Christ

No one wants to be weak. Weak things, even weak people, are seen as useless. Lacking ability or the power to do something generally puts someone on the fringe of society. Unable to walk? You’re looked upon with pity. Weakened due to addiction? You’re looked upon with scorn. Not gifted academically? You’re viewed as stupid.

While people want to seem loving toward someone with a disease, challenge or disability, they often look at them as weak and useless. But they should not be seen as such.

In Christ there is amazing power. We follow Paul’s lead and seek contentment with our lot in life. In contentment we find strength in the midst of weakness, people’s derision, and all other hardships. For we do not seek the strength of this life, but of the next. This is why the strength of Christ is so important for us. Through Him and His sacrifice for us, we are blessed with perfection in eternity. Through His strength, we are lifted.
