A Devotion By Pastor Paul Rieger - Senior Pastor
Doing Good
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.—Luke 6:35 (ESV)
Follow God’s Example
It sounds good to say that we are to love our enemies. It sounds good to do good. It sounds good to give without expecting anything in return.
But it is far more difficult to live this way. It’s difficult to love that person at work who seems to be oblivious to what they’re doing. It’s hard to love someone who speaks rudely. When money is tight, and in this economy seeming tighter, how do we give without expecting anything in return? How do we do this? With the power of God and following His example.
We were God’s enemies, but He loved us. He gave to us, without expecting anything in return. He did the ultimate good of dying in our place and rising to bless us with life. Now instead of enemies of God, we are His children.
And now, as God’s children, we change to live the character of our God. We love our enemies. We do good. We lend without expecting anything in return. If you’re not there yet, grow as a child of God, seizing the cross of Christ and being continually in prayer. God will grow you.
