A Devotion By Pastor Paul Rieger - Senior Pastor
More Than A Feeling
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.—I Peter 4:8 (ESV)
Love Is An Act
Love is oversimplified in our world in such a way that it, many times, becomes meaningless. But love for a Christian has great meaning. Paul says wonderfully in Romans 5:8 (ESV), “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This is where love begins for the believer. God rescued us from sin by giving himself.
But love does not stop. Peter, in his letters, reminds his original audience and us today that we are to love one another earnestly. In great love we are to lift one another up, bear one another’s burdens, forgive sins, and go out of our way to show great care.
In love, God covered our sins by loving us from the cross and tomb. In love, we cover past sins and mistakes as we love people through forgiveness and restoration. This gospel message of love is to be lived in powerful acts. Not just felt.
