A Devotion By Pastor Paul Rieger - Senior Pastor
More Than Empty Words
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.’” “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”—Numbers 6:22-27 (ESV)
Power In His Name
Originally given to Aaron and the priests, these important words are used by pastors at the end of worship to send people with blessing. But what does this actually do? What makes these more than empty words?
We include this blessing in our worship so that people leave with the name of God placed upon them. The name of God carries the full power and identity of God himself. So that means when receiving this blessing, this benediction, we carry the full identity of God.
This doesn’t make us more important or more loved than anyone else. But in carrying God’s identity, we carry His mercy, love and new life. We can then take this into the world. Before, during and after carrying God’s name, we are blessed with the gracious peace of our God in heaven
