Jesus Came Down on Christmas Day

The Word of the Lord.

John 1:14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  All other revelries connected to Christmas are a pointless display unless behind them there is an appreciation of the amazing event that Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem to be our Savior and Lord. The closeness of God is the very meaning of Christmas. The fact that, “The word became flesh and dwelt among us” is the center of the Christmas message.

God’s Son, from His infancy, is identified with poverty and self-denial. Jesus’ life lacks the pretense, ease and comforts which we seek and like to enjoy. Jesus was also exposed to the hardships of the life of an ordinary family. For our salvation, Jesus became poor that we, through His cross, might become rich, reconciling us to His Father by bringing peace and hope into our lives. God’s love laid baby Jesus into Bethlehem’s manger.

The story of the birth of Jesus is incredible. There is an unequalled truth which Christmas proclaims and the truth is this: Christ, here called “the Word” is the eternal Son of God, equal with the Father and the Spirit in majesty and power, who assumed the human nature into His divine being and lived as man on this earth. God became human flesh; God lies in the Bethlehem manger. When we understand that Jesus came to save us from our sins, then we can celebrate Christmas.

Jesus came to save us from sin, death, and the power of the devil, that we might be with Him in heaven. The blessings of Christmas are for this world and for the world to come. They become the perfect joys of eternal life. Amen.
