Colossians 4:2: Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Prayers

The apostle Paul tells Christians to pray on a regular basis. None of the faithful’s prayers will ever go unheard. The door to the Almighty’s presence is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. God does this for each individual Christian.

The Lord desires his children to come to him personally and to tell him all our needs; we need God’s help to keep us going. Jesus takes us by the hand and leads us, giving us food, clothing, shelter and protection. We need spiritual guidance. We enter prayer by faith in Jesus Christ; we have been reconciled to God through the cross. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the Gospel, do we come to faith in Christ and find in him a Savior from sin. Jesus is the way by which we come to the Father and are saved.

Scripture

Also, God speaks to us through scripture; we know his will and walk in the way of his commandments. His word is a light to our feet and a lamp to our path. Walking with God we walk safely. Therefore, we go daily to God in prayer and ask, and take, take me by the hand on life’s journey, and lead me until life’s pilgrimage is complete.
Appropriately, Paul asks believers to be persistent in prayer. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2). Prayer is not always easy; nor is prayer a vending machine, into which someone drops a request and out comes the answer. The Canaanite woman did not receive her answer right away. She begged in genuine humility until Jesus told her, “Woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted” (Matthew 15:28).

Christians can be persistent in prayer because Jesus has promised that every prayer asked according to his will is answered. However, it is answered in such a way that we can throughout time and eternity praise the Lord. The things we ask for may hurt us in the long run; that is why we pray: “Thy will be done.” We believe that God’s will is always wiser than our own and always good and gracious toward us. Consequently, we pray and wait.

Pray with Confidence

We pray with confidence that God will answer as he sees fit, even though for the moment we do not understand. Many times we see from below, but the Almighty has a clear view from above, and deals with his believing children for their ultimate blessing.

No matter what the circumstances are, believers can pray, and God is pleased to listen to our prayers asked in Jesus’ name. In prayer, Christians have a power, which can work miracles.

Today, then, let us undertake the constant use of prayer, which can bring so many blessings into our lives; the lives around us, and fill our every day with hope and confidence.
