We Have A Problem

Trinity has a big problem right now. We need more people to help in various places. We have people burning out because they have been serving on one committee for a very long time. And we have many places where there are great needs.

On Rally Day, I was disappointed to see that not many people had signed up to do things. Now I am not trying to be rude to people or to guilt people into serving in places where they are not called, I am simply calling all of you to step up. A couple of weeks ago, I preached on apathy. Apathy is one of the biggest problems we face today. Apathy means that we simply don’t care or that we don’t care to do something. We cannot have a successful church and be apathetic at the same time, it just doesn’t work that way. And so I am calling all of you to step up in your service to the Lord.

What is Serving the Lord?

Firstly, serving the church is serving the Lord. Paul says in Romans 12:1, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Look at how Paul equates worship and serving one another. In our service of one another, we bring worship and praise to our God in heaven. And the many committees, groups, and others in this church are established not to self-serve but to serve all people. So step up.

Like to party? Join the planning committee who plans parties and events of celebration. Like to talk to people? Join KIT and keep in touch with our members and check in on them. Like to craft? We have a couple of different groups of people who craft together to make things to give to others or to decorate our church. What do you like to do? Ask me and I’ll find you a place.

Another big thing I want you to get out of your mind is inability. Many people think they are unable because they lack training or prior experience that would help them. This isn’t an issue because the groups I want you to be a part of will train you and equip you. That is one of the biggest purposes of the church, to equip the saints for the work God has placed before them.

This Isn’t A Life Sentence!

And then the other big thing is that people assume they will be asked to serve for the rest of their lives in whatever they join. We have some people stepping down from Stewardship who have served for a good twenty plus years. But I don’t want you to look at them and think that any group requires that length of service; those people served there because they found their fit and enjoyed it. If you join something and want to step down, then step down.

And finally, while this is all a bunch of Pastor bossing you around, you don’t have to do this. I want you to serve out of joy. God loves a cheerful giver, even those who give of their time and energy. You know the love of God and how He has given Jesus for you so that you would be forgiven and live, but we need you to help us get that out to others. And you can preach that gospel of life in your service to the people inside and outside of this church.
