Podcast – Apr 18, 2019 – The Lord’s Supper
The Lord’s Supper
On Maundy Thursday, we celebrate Jesus’ meeting with his disciples in the room in Jerusalem and having a last meal together. We call this last meal, The Lord’s Supper. Or otherwise known as “The Last Supper”. This meal was important for us. It was here that Jesus gave us the institution of The Lord’s Supper. The bread and the wine, signifying the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Words of Institution come directly from Jesus. From Mark 26:
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
So today we celebrate that incredibly special gift that was given us by Jesus Himself. Jesus gave Himself up for us! We didn’t do anything but be miserable sinners. And he took that on and defeated death for us! That is what we celebrate.
Listen to Pastor Paul Rieger as he discusses The Lord’s Supper.
We hope this message is uplifting for you and brings you closer to God and the salvation He gives us.
