A Brief Advent Devotion for the Family
Unwrapping the Gifts – Advent Season Devotions
With the coming of Thanksgiving this week, we also look forward to the Advent season. Advent is where we, as Christians, prepare for the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a joyous time and one that we very much look forward to each year.
This year, we would like to offer the following guide for devotions for your family this Advent season. This is from the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod News and Information Blog and we thank them for providing this great resource. You can view their blog here.
The Advent wreath is lighted, adding the lighting of one candle for each week of holy Advent.

Week 1
O come, Thou Branch of Jesse’s tree,
Free them from Satan’s tyranny
That trust Thy mighty pow’r to save,
And give them vict’ry o’er the grave. Refrain
Refrain
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel
Shall come to thee,
O Israel!
Week 2
O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heav’nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery. Refrain
Week 3
O come, Thou Dayspring from on high,
And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight. Refrain
Week 4 (Sunday only)
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear. Refrain
